Who is entitled to a helplessness allowance or, in the absence of assets, supplementary benefits?

In principle, everyone is entitled to it. The helplessness allowance enables people with a disability to lead an independent life. A person is considered helpless if he or she requires permanent assistance or supervision from a third party for everyday activities (dressing, undressing, standing up, sitting down, eating, etc.) due to health impairment. AHV and IV pensions and daily allowances are generally intended to cover the basic needs of a disabled person. If these benefits are not sufficient, supplementary benefits can be claimed.

How and to which office should I apply for helplessness allowances or supplementary benefits?

The helplessness allowance can be registered with the AHV and IV offices. Applications for supplementary benefits can be submitted to the AHV branch office at your place of residence or to the cantonal compensation office.
